This is a workshop designed for people in leadership roles. How do you as a supervisor best assist your supervisees with their own professional development so they can best serve their clients? This course will help supervisors identify leadership styles, strengths, and areas for improvement. During the training supervisory strategies and skills will be reviewed and practiced. Supervision issues that will be covered include team development, communication styles, providing feedback, conflict management, utilizing professional development plans, ethical dilemmas in supervision, and recruitment and retention practices.
At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
- Identify supervisory styles and how to use each style most effectively
- Identify team development & staging and associated strategies
- Explain effective communication and feedback strategies
- Describe strategies to improve retention and recruitment success
- Discuss the decision making process in supervision ethical dilemmas
About the Presenters:
Christine Powers is a licensed independent clinical social worker who earned her MSW Degree from UNH in 2009. Christine is dually licensed as an LICSW and MLADC. Christine has served as Consultant and Trainer for evidence-based practices for Dartmouth Health to the NH Bureau of Mental Health Services for the past 5 years. For the past 10 years, Christine has maintained a private practice where she provides individual and family counseling, as well as consultation, supervision, and training services. Christine has experience in community and inpatient mental health settings. Christine is a member of Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), an international organization committed to promoting quality MI practice and training; MINT membership acceptance is based upon a rigorous application process to ensure members have ample MI training experience and practice quality MI skills. Christine has provided over 85 hours of MI training, and over 600 hours of other training!
Katie McDonnell is a social worker who earned her MSW from UNH in 1997. Katie has over 28 years working in the NH mental health system, and she has served in multiple leadership roles including serving as Program Director and Director of Clinical Quality Improvement, Staff Development, and many direct care roles. For the past 2 years, Katie has been a Consultant and Trainer regarding EBPs for Dartmouth Health to the New Hampshire Bureau of Mental Health Services. She has over 300 hours of training experience, and also holds a private consult business.
